We support a wide variety of file types over MMS.ย

The industry standard maximum file size limit is 600KB for toll-free numbers and is 1MB on short code numbers.ย

However, our system can compress many file types, which means you can often upload files that are over the industry limit and we'll resize them for you. ๐Ÿ‘Œ (Note: file compression is possible for static images only).

The upload limits differ for toll-free accounts and short code accounts, which we lay out below.

Toll-Free Numbers and Short Codes

Whether you use a toll-free number (e.g. 888-555-555) or short code, you can always upload the following file types: JPG/JPEG, GIF, PNG.

Note: Dedicated short code numbers can also send specialty files like MP3, MP4, VCF, and PDFs. Check out this page with all the details on short codes.

๐Ÿ’ก SimpleTexting Tip
If you ever want to send a file that isn't supported, you can always upload it to Google Drive or Dropbox and send it as a link! Be sure to use our URL shortener.ย

About the Inbox:
If you'd like to send a file as an attachment through the Inbox, use the 'Embed media as MMS' option.

As always, you can upload a maximum of 15MB for GIF, JPEG, JPG/JPEG, PNG and 600KB for VCF, MP3, MP4, PDF and animated GIF.

Additional carrier format limitations may be applied, depending on the number. We'll still let you know if the selected format isn't supported.

Note: Starting with the end of August, 2022, MMS max file upload sizes for local numbers will be:

GIF (static) - MAX size 740 KB

PNG - MAX size 740 KB

JPG/JPEG - MAX size 740 KB

MP3 - MAX size 740 KB

MP4 - MAX 740 KB

GIF animated - 600 KB.

If you're uploading multiple files in the MMS attachment, the size limit is the sum of the file sizes. You can upload up to five files.

Want to upload an image that exceeds the max file size? SimpleTexting has a handy built-in feature that shrinks images so that they meet provider gateway limitations. So, if the image size exceeds 740KB, you can still try to upload it.
