Outgoing toll-free messages to U.S. carriers

Starting July 1, 2021, several mobile carriers have introduced additional fees for toll-free numbers. This is an industry-wide change that affects all SMS service providers.

We have posted these surcharges here early to be as transparent as possible.

Is it possible to predict the cost of these carrier fees ahead of time?

Since your unique contact list determines which messages will be sent through which carriers, it’s difficult to predict additional cost. That said, for most customers, the impact will be minimal.

If you want to estimate the additional cost, here’s a rough breakdown of the average percentage of messages our customers send to AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and other carriers.

Outgoing toll-free messages to Canadian carriers

In early 2021, Canadian carriers applied surcharges on outgoing messages to Canadian phone numbers from toll-free numbers.

The current Canadian fees for SMS are below; MMS is passed through at twice this cost. Fees are charged in US Dollars (based on a trailing-average CAD to USD exchange rate).

All rates are subject to change.

How we charge these carrier fees

How we bill you for these carrier fees will depend on your payment method and whether you’re on a monthly or annual plan.

In most cases, carrier fees will be charged on your monthly or annual cycle date or when accumulated fees are greater than $500, whichever is earlier.
